How the weight estimator works

Agents charge shipping by weight, and you only see the real number once your items reach the warehouse. Adding up your haul first tells you whether it fits your budget, or whether to split it into two parcels.

  1. Add what you bought

Open a category or search, then tap each item. Tap it again, or use the plus button, when you have more than one.

  2. Packaging is added for you

A few light clothes go in a poly bag, a single pair of shoes in a shoe box, and bigger hauls in a box sized to fit. Electronics and glass get padding on top.

  3. Compare shipping lines

Put the weight into your agent's calculator. Prices differ a lot from line to line, so look at a few before you submit your parcel.

Weight estimator questions

How close is the estimate to what my agent will weigh?

Close enough to plan with. Every item uses an average weight taken from real products, and the same kind of item can come out 10 to 15% lighter or heavier depending on the brand, the size and the fabric. Your agent weighs the actual parcel before you pay for shipping, so expect the final number to move a little.

My item isn't in the list. What should I pick?

Whatever is closest in size and material. A thick fleece zip-up weighs about the same as a heavy hoodie, and chunky designer sneakers are nearer to basketball shoes than to running shoes. For a set, add the pieces separately.

How does it choose the packaging?

One or two items that include shoes get a shoe box. Hauls of only clothes and accessories go in a poly bag when they're three items or fewer, under 1.2 kg and nothing bulky like a jacket. Everything else gets a box sized by total weight and item count. Electronics, sunglasses and mugs add padding: 150 g plus 50 g for each fragile item, up to 400 g.

Why is my shipping quote based on a higher weight?

Many shipping lines charge volumetric weight for big, light parcels: length times width times height in centimetres, divided by a number such as 5000 or 6000 depending on the line. You pay for whichever is higher, the scale weight or the volumetric weight. Puffer jackets and shoe boxes take up a lot of room, which is why many buyers ask the agent to remove shoe boxes.

Where do I check the shipping price?

In your agent's shipping calculator. The buttons next to the result open the calculators on KakoBuy, USFans, LitBuy and Hipobuy, where you enter the weight and your country. New KakoBuy accounts made through our link get $480 in coupons, and code peter20 takes 20% off shipping.
